A club source told CSNPhilly.com that the Flyers have contacted Robert Esche's agent about a possible return this fall to maybe be the backup for newly acquired starter Ray Emery.

Although the discussions are only the beginning stages, there are contract issues that Flyers and Esche run into.

Esche still has one-year left on his deal with Kontinental Hockey League’s SKA St. Petersburg. Head coach Barry Smith has told CSNPhilly that he would not release Esche from his contract unless he and his team could find a suitable replacement for him.

Esche had a 21-14 record with an impressive 1.87 GAA, and a .912 save percentage for SKA St. Petersburg.
